icon The Gran Sabana is located in the eastern part of Venezuela and includes a large expanse of plateau which is dominated by open savannahs that emphasize the numerous Tepuyes. Numerous rivers and waterfalls that runs north to south, which combined form the upper basin of the Caroni River. This river serves an important purpose for the country because its waters feed the Guri Dam, the largest hydroelectric plant in Venezuela. The weather in Gran Sabana is always green rain forests and more than 350 endemic species.

The Gran Sabana is one of the most famous landscapes of Venezuela. From "Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World" to the National Geographic feature story of 1989 and slide shows in the homes of fans worldwide, who have seen this awesome, almost alien landscape they left a lasting impression.

This area receives about 400 cm of rainfall a year to feed the headwaters of the Orinoco River as it passes through the territory of Guyana, a vast region covering almost half the territory of the nation. Indians here are still struggling to maintain their customs and territory against the mining of gold and diamonds.

The Guayana region is in the state of Bolivar and the name that has the giant Guri Dam hydroelectric power in Venezuela and throughout the construction of large engineering works and is here. Ciudad Guayana is a thriving metropolis and Ciudad Bolivar is an important colonial architecture, as it was the first capital city and located next to the Orinoco River at its narrowest point.
